Some kind of squishy love
At the start of 2024, Amy Wiggin questioned if it was possible to make great art from happiness? It is not unusual for the trope of the tortured artist to be at the forefront of collector’s minds when thy are buying artwork. When Wiggin found herself in a healthy and happy relationship she wondered if this new chapter would have a detrimental change to her practice. Up until this point, her work has largely been a chronicle of her tumultuous dating history.
She writes: ‘throughout all of my practice, and indeed life, I have always turned to and found lightness and comfort in humour. Humour it would seem, is the bed rock of a great relationship, and of a great life’.
‘Some kind of squishy love’ is Wiggin’s successful attempt to capture that all consuming feeling of being totally wrapped up in another person, both physically and emotionally.
