On the other side of the curtains
On the other side of the curtains continues to explore Daisy Jarrett's interest in themes of domesticity and womanhood. Like many of Jarrett's imagery, this work is based on photos that the artist has found on Instagram and explores questions concerning the impact of social media on body image.
Using Calico safe wash inks, Jarrett paints her images quickly and spontaneously onto the back of old etching plates. She then uses water to loosen the inks to create a texture more akin to watercolour than print, occasionally using a cloth or rag to wipe away some of the ink to obscure the image even more. Once the artist is happy with the image on the plate, damp paper is placed on top before being put through a table-top etching press. Because of the nature of how Jarrett works, she never truly knows how it will come out as a final print and believes the happy accidents is what makes the prints unique.
Each work is hand-printed within the edition and will have unique qualities and variations through the artist's process of printing
