Like a falling star
After moving from London to Lisbon, Harry Cartwright was inspired by the beaches of Carcavelos to make a short film ‘Like a Falling Star’ which encapsulates themes of love, longing, and reminiscing over the heightened emotions of sun soaked romance. Influenced by the sun-drenched tones and aesthetics of 1980s surf culture and psychedelia, the film emanates an atmosphere that radiates both passion and wistfulness.
From this film, Cartwright created two prints especially for Art School Prints, by taking stills from the film and layering them with vibrant, screen-printed graphics. Each still acts as a window into moments that feel infinite yet fleeting; days spent with companions and lovers under an expansive, burning sky.
By transforming these cinematic moments into standalone works, the prints explore the duality of memory as both vivid and transient. Time and memories fading away like the heat at the end of a summer’s day. The interplay of movement, warmth, and emotion in these works echoes the pulse of an eternal summer and the melancholy realisation of its end.
Each work is hand-printed within the edition and will have unique qualities and variations through the artist's process of printing
