Gold Lion is an 8 layer screenprint that Horgan approached in a spontaneous and instinctive manner. Each layer was made in the studio moments before printing by cutting sheets of newsprint with a razor blade which were used to create the screens. The composition and colour pallete were entirely unplanned and built organically with each layer based on the one that came before. Using newsprint in this manner gave the artist a high degree of texture due to the low exposure time that is necessary with incidental marks made by cutting also expressed.
Each work is hand-printed within the edition and will have unique qualities and variations through the artist's process of printing
